Amazing Underground House in Nusa Penida-Bali


Nusa Penida is a small island located in the southern part of Bali precisely in Kelungkung regency. The small island consists of 3 main islands namely Nusa Gede, Nusa Ceningan and Nusa Lembongan.Nusa Penida always has stories and amazing places. Its natural beauty always makes people curious to visit there. You must have heard of an underground house. In Nusa Penida there is one of the prehistoric relics of the underground house that is often called Gala-Gala Cave, has a depth of 7 meters below the ground. Back in 1961, a man named Jero Mangku Dalang or often called Mangku Byasa built an underground house. He is a farmer and a hermit. The place was used for his hermitage. In the past, the process of constructing an underground house was very unique and traditional, using only a linggis (sharp iron), then using cow dung that was burned to soften limestone so it was easy to dig and took 11 years to complete it.

Gala- Gala Cave



The Gala-Gala Cave is located in Lembongan Village, Nusa Penida Sub-district, Kelungkung Regency, Bali. Its location about 50 meters close to Lembongan highway. If you want to go there you can use a motorcycle or car,  then to get the underground house you must to walk. There are 3 entrances we can choose and the height of the stairs at the entrance about 2 meters. The air inside Goa is very cool because there is a lot of air ventilation. The design is very neat and traditional, there are several rooms, such as meditation room, bedroom, living room, kitchen, and water well. There are many lights there to make it easier for tourists go around and light up the underground house. When viewed from the outside, does not look interesting but if you have entered the cave, surely you will be impressed because it will look some typical Balinese house decorated with Nusa Penida traditional cloth. You only pay Ticket Rp.20.000, - / person for going there.
